A student must have participated in at least two major sports activities. Both academics and athletics will be given equal weighting when deciding on the award winner. The student must have a minimum of a 70% average in his/her course studies to qualify for the award. 

Presented on behalf of Park Plains East Local #31 to two students with the highest academic average. This is a monetary award only. 

No plaques are necessary for this award. Awards are monetary and are donated by the County of Vermilion River #24. Contact the county for a representative to bring awards to ceremony. Awarded to student with highest mark in respective course. 

A $100 scholarship will be presented each year to a high school student at JR Robson School who best demonstrates the following characteristics: 

1. genuinely cares about others and would be willing to put others' interests before their own in times of need 
2. displays a positive and upbeat attitude 
3. models strong values 
4. works hard, and to the best of their ability (though does not need to have top marks) 
5. preference will be given to a student who may not qualify for or receive other scholarships 

Student should be involved in at least one major activity during the school year. The student must show willingness to do hard work (non-glamour duty). Students must be dependable and must work to improve school spirit. Student works for overall improvement through appropriate channels. Student is seen as positive “doer” by staff and students. 

Each year the staff will select two grade 12 students (preferably a boy and a girl), who best meet the following criterion as winners of these scholarships. 

1. Shows unselfish concern for the welfare of others. 
2. Provides positive leadership within the school. 
3. Shows respect for, and is respected by, the staff and students. 
4. Willingly assists in doing some of the many jobs around the school, which must be done but are not compulsory. 
5. Demonstrates good deportment (behavior, manners, appearance) around the school. 
6. Accepts the responsibility for self-discipline in behavior and work habits. 
7. Enthusiastically support school activities as a spectator, worker, or participant 
8. Shows initiative in proposing activities and charges that would have a positive effect on the school. 
9. This award will not normally be given to a student(s) who would be a recipient of another award presented at graduation. 
10. Money only no plaque. Accessible through the office. 

Medal is sent to the school in the spring. Given to the student with the highest academic average in grade 12. 

This award recognizes students who show the characteristics that Marianne exemplified during her life. This $600 scholarship is available to any student at JR Robson School who meets the following criteria, both in the school and in the community: 

• A love of playing sports 
• A positive disposition and willingness to work hard without recognition 
• Involvement behind-the-scenes 
• Support for fellow students, both on and off the field 
• Effort to work to capabilities in school 
• Involvement in sports and extra-curricular activities in school 

No plaque is necessary for this award. Award is monetary and is donated by Insurance Network Services. Contact INS Agencies to bring the award to the ceremony. Awarded to student with highest mark in respective course. 

The purpose of this award is to encourage students to achieve excellence in construction-related courses offered in Alberta’s high schools. The award consists of a certificate of achievement and a cash award of $200 for the top grade twelve CTS student. Must apply to the Merit Contractors Association, an organization on non-union construction industry employers who have joined together to provide services and programs to benefit their employees and enhance their businesses. Only awarded if students apply. 

1. All school students eligible. 
2. Suggested 10% increase in marks over previous semester. 
3. Attitude improvement also considered. 
4. Awarded in exceptional circumstances only – not every year. 

To be a recipient of the PAL (Participation, Academic & Leadership) Award students: 

1. Must have applied for the award by filling out form. 
2. Must have shown leadership within the school. 
3. Must have participated to the best of their ability in school sports, clubs, and events. 
4. Must have achieved at least a 70% average. 

Guideline for choosing PAL recipients: Participation in at least 2 major (Pirate Crews, Yearbook, Team Sports); 3 minor; or 1 major & 2 minor

This award recognizes an individual with outstanding characteristics. Each high school is allocated one award. Recipients will receive a plaque and letter of commendation. The awards are presented jointly by the Minster of Advanced Education and Career Development as well as the Minister of Education. Must apply for plaque prior to May 15. Nominees must: 

1. Be Alberta residents, and 
2. Graduating from high school in the current academic year. 
3. Have displayed outstanding characteristics in the following areas: 
   1. Citizenship 
   2. Leadership 
   3. Community service, volunteer work, and must also have shown initiative and had a positive impact in the community and/or school. 
4. Be recommended by the Selection Committee within their school. 

Recipients of this award are also eligible for the 
Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal - $5,000 and a letter of commendation from the Lieutenant Governor 
Alberta Centennial Scholarship - $2,005 
To ensure all nominees can be considered for both the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal and the Alberta Centennial Scholarship nominations must be submitted to Alberta Scholarship Programs by June 1. 

Presented by the Vermilion Rotary Club for the student with the highest academic average. Contact the Rotary Club for more details on this award. 

Must send in application form for this award in June to confirm delivery of the certificates. 

This Award is given to the student or staff who 

• Best displays a Marauder: a person who has a fighting spirit of the high seas as he/she rides the crest of the waves 
• Maintains the integrity of the ship - Robson 
• Displays positive school spirit 
• Pushes themselves to the limits of their potential 
• Ambassador of goodwill for the school 

This award should be received in front of the school audience. If the winner cannot be at graduation or awards night, it will be awarded at the next available opportunity. 

Amount $500 Annually 
Criteria: 

• For gr. 12 students entering the agricultural field in post secondary 
• To be nominated by the school 
• To be selected by a committee of school and AG Society Members 
• Average or above average marks 
• Citizenship 
• Participation in agriculture 
• Participation in community (4-H, Volunteer, Exhibiting, Showing, Judging) 

The Western Communities Foundation Exceptional Achievement Citation and Bursary Award, of $500, is awarded to a High School Graduate in each community served by Western Financial Group. 
Award recipients are those who intend to seek further training or education to become productive citizens of Canada and who have done one or more of the following: 

• Have overcome adversity (mental/physical disability), financial hardship or family issues. 
• Displayed outstanding community and/or school spirit as an organizer, participant or volunteer. 
• Who has demonstrated inspirational conduct whether an act of heroism or leadership in a crisis. 

This scholarship is established in memory of William and Alice Scarfe, early settlers in the Vermilion district. Alice was formerly a teacher at Island Hill School. The amount of this scholarship will be based on the interest earned on $5000 principal gift. This is a monetary award, which is accessible through the office. The award is to be presented annually to a graduating student who best fits the following criteria: 

1. enrolled in post-secondary education in the field of science, medicine or nursing intending to do cancer research 
2. enrolled in post-secondary education in the field of science, medicine, nursing or related medical field. 

Open to industrial arts students from grades 7 – 12 both male and female, for outstanding performance. Established in January 9, 1978. The amount of the scholarship is the interest earned on the principal deposited. 

All of the other award on the awards list will require plaques. Based on academics.
